Aerosol therapy involves several pieces of equipment and a routine that children need to repeat regularly. The cystic fibrosis team and patient education unit wanted a concrete way to explain those steps during appointments and help children become more familiar with them.
A familiar way to approach the treatment. Children follow simple visual cues, put the steps in order, and learn what each object is for. The characters use voices recorded by members of the cystic fibrosis team and by patients. Care teams can use the experience during a patient education session, before treatment, or between appointments.
The experience gives professionals another way to explain the treatment and check what the child has understood. It also gives the child, family, and care team something concrete to discuss, rather than relying on verbal instructions alone.
